Jeju Privately is the personal website I use to introduce my local Jeju guide service. I offer in car guiding to English-speaking visitors who are planning to explore Jeju in a self-drive rental car.
If you are considering self-driving Jeju, and like the idea of using a local guide, I could join you for the day in your rental. I am able to share local insight about Jeju — popular places of interest and those more off the beaten track — at a pace and flow that best suits your travel style, creating the opportunity for you and your travel group to develop a deeper, more personal connection to the island.
An experience centered around freedom and flexibility, in contrast to the more structured feel generally offered by pre-arranged private tours. (Note: this is a guide-only service — I don't drive your rental car.)

Jeju Privately is built around a simple idea — combining the freedom of self-driving a rental car with the insight and knowledge of a local English-speaking Jeju guide.
It offers a more personal and flexible way to experience Jeju — where the pace, priorities, and overall shape of the day remain firmly in your hands, as corresponding local knowledge and insight dovetails into your day, helping you make the most of your time on the island and see things that might easily have been missed.
There is no fixed itinerary—unless you choose to create one. Your day unfolds naturally around the places that interest you most, giving you the freedom to stop, explore and stay a little longer whenever you wish.

Something Worth Considering When Self Driving Jeju
Jeju is a relatively small island — or so it appears. In most people's minds, the ideal plan is simple: find a great place to stay, use it as a base from which to explore.
However, Mount Hallasan sits squarely in the middle of the island — and that can have a bigger impact on getting around than most visitors anticipate, effectively separating its key regions, each with their own share of must-see attractions.

For anyone intent on seeing as much as possible, the geography can mean some pretty serious distances, and depending on timing, sometimes in heavy traffic too. To a degree that's part of the experience. But time is limited, so long journeys back to a single base eat directly into time that could be spent somewhere more interesting.
Some visitors consider splitting their accommodation across at least two or even more geographically separate locations — making it easier to explore the east and west of the island separately, and the south too with its many attractions.

One thing to mention before we go further:
My service is most ideal for those visitors choosing to stay in or around the Aewol area of Jeju for at least part of their Jeju visit (largely because it's my home base and in order to meet you I will need collecting :). However, if you are staying in another location, that's no problem, I will however need you to cover the taxi fare for me to get to you and back on the day. By the way Aewol, as it happens is a great location to explore in its own right, and as a base for anyone looking to venture west and south west of the Island, and is extremely well served for accommodation and dining choices.

Self-Driving Jeju with a Local English-Speaking Guide
If you've spent any time browsing Jeju private tours you may have sensed that any final choice will also be a compromise. There are simply too many amazing places and never enough time. And with many private tours — the objective is generally to get round it all and tick the boxes. However well intentioned, some tours can end up being focused mainly on completing the schedule.
Which is not a bad thing of course, if the objective is just to maximise sightseeing, yet for many, the quality of the overall experience enjoyed is more nuanced.
So, since the time on any given day is limited and you can't choose everything you want to see here in Jeju, why not choose how you use your time to experience those places you do see?

Whilst it won't appeal to everyone of course, my suggestion is this: rather than choose a private tour, consider making a plan to self-drive a rental car, with me alongside you — as an English-speaking local Jeju guide. This could potentially offer a more balanced approach, where the focus is split between the places you see and the overall feeling and experience of the day.
Part of the challenge Jeju presents is that due to its geography, Mount Hallasan effectively separates the island's main attractions into three groups — East, West, and South Jeju.
For the visitor intent on island-wide exploration this means at least a couple of things: one day is unlikely to be enough and a choice will need to be made where to begin.

Exploring Jeju from Aewol
That's where I can help. I'm based in Aewol — one of Jeju's most beautiful areas, with a stunning volcanic coastline, famous café street, beaches and some of the island's most authentic local experiences right on the doorstep.
It's also, for those looking for suggestions of where to go the perfect starting point for a relaxed full day heading west and south — through Hyeopjae and Hallim, past the tea fields of Osulloc, down to the dramatic coastline of Sanbangsan and Yongmeori, and even beyond.
Additionally, due to its proximity to the airport, Aewol makes an excellent base for either the beginning or end of your stay — particularly if you plan to divide your time between more than one location on the island. Of course, if you would rather start from another area of the island, it's no problem at all.

So if you want a great place to start, irrespective of the direction you would like to head out in, and a semi-plan for exploring Jeju by rental car, that's what's on offer. As a certified Jeju tour guide, I am also able to guide you further afield, or on other routes instead of going west and south if preferred.
Again with a focus on balancing the places you see with the pacing needed to ensure the day is unhurried and relaxing. Punctuated by stops here and there for some off the beaten track time, cafés, photos, or just leg stretching and a stroll.

With any visit there's always some compromise to be made. But by leaving behind some of the constraints of a more structured, finely-tuned itinerary, you gain something truly valuable — a genuine connection to Jeju Island, entirely on your own terms.

Jessica — licensed local Jeju guide
As mentioned, I'm a licensed English-speaking Jeju Island tour guide, also qualified to conduct guiding at UNESCO World Heritage Sites. I'm a Korean national and have lived on Jeju with my husband Tony, originally from the UK, since 2012.
When I'm not guiding, we're usually out exploring the island — discovering new places, trying new experiences, and deepening my understanding of Jeju. I do this both for pleasure and because it makes me a better guide.

Some Considerations for Self-Driving Jeju
Mount Halla in the middle of the island can make for extended drive times — especially in heavy traffic for those wishing to explore too much in one day.
East and West Jeju each have their own fair share of attractions and must-see places — a two base strategy as far as accommodation is concerned potentially means less backtracking.
Southern areas of Jeju naturally become easier to explore separately or as a tag-on once you are either east or west of Hallasan.
Many of Jeju's most rewarding hidden spots are found off the main routes.

How it Works
Once your booking is confirmed, I will make contact via WhatsApp or your preferred messaging platform before your arrival — for a brief introductory chat and to confirm details and discuss your expectations for the day.
In order to make an inquiry and/or a booking, an active PayPal account is required. We appreciate some visitors may not have a PayPal account, and whilst an account is very easy to set up, it may not be the choice for everyone. Unfortunately, for logistical reasons we are unable to offer additional methods of payment at this time.
(Please note Maximum travel group size is 6 people.)
On the Day
After arriving in Jeju and collecting your rental car, you'll probably want to make your way to your accommodation and get settled in. I will be available at the default meeting point at 9.00am-9.30am the following morning to join you in your vehicle once you get there. This is of course unless you would prefer to be met at your accommodation or another location. This can be decided later don't worry.
Default Meeting point: Outside the convenience store across the main road from HanaroMart store [Hagwi Nonghyup Branch], 7136 Iljuseo-ro, Aewol-eup. I will explain this during my introductory call. (The meeting point is on the main road (1132) heading west from the airport — around 6 miles away. Just enter '7136 Iljuseo-ro' into Google to see the exact location.) This is also where you'll please drop me off at the end of the day.

If you'd prefer to be met at the airport or rental vehicle collection point on arrival day instead of the following morning — or in addition to it — just let me know. Please bear in mind that bookings are based on either full-day or half-day durations.

Full day (approx. 8–9 hours) — $230 USD / £200 GBP
Notes: Pay in your preferred currency via PayPal. Rates quoted are per booking, not per person. Your rental car costs are not included — I travel with you as a passenger in your rental vehicle and don't drive. (The pricing shown above is based on the default meeting point being chosen, for other locations an allowance to cover taxi fares will be required).

How to Make an Inquiry

Please check your required date(s) are available on the calendar below, then submit your inquiry using the button below.
You'll receive a quotation in the form of a PayPal invoice within 24 hours. The invoice allows you to review the quoted Service details and, should you decide to proceed, use the same invoice to pay the 30% deposit. No payment is due unless you choose to proceed and pay the deposit- the remaining balance being payable on my arrival on the day.
Once issued, the PayPal invoice will hold your selected date(s) for 48 hours from the time of issue. If you need more time, however, just get in touch by email.
My official guide authorization will be presented on arrival and, for added peace of mind, an advance copy of the same will be included with your quotation (some personal details may be removed for security purposes).

Important to Know
Maximum travel group size: 6 people.
Please make sure your rental car has comfortable space for your group, all luggage if carried, and me. I would usually take the front passenger seat to coordinate more easily with the driver. When booking your rental, remember to include me in your passenger count. Groups of 3 or more are advised to book at least an SUV or minivan (if in doubt, please confirm with your rental car company).

Jeju is a beautiful island, but it is also a place where conditions can change quickly. Weather can shift during the day, coastal winds can be stronger than expected, and travel times between locations are often longer than they appear on a map. What looks simple when planning from afar can feel very different once you are actually here.
A local Jeju guide understands these realities instinctively. Jeju locals of course know Jeju best — the quieter spots, the best times to visit certain places, the coastal roads that reward a slower pace, and the kind of local knowledge that simply doesn't appear in a travel guide. They know how conditions affect specific areas and how to help shape a day that still feels enjoyable and relaxing rather than potentially disjointed or forced in any way.

My first thought is always this: most people who come to Jeju will come only once in their lifetime. Making sure the experience they choose is worthy of that moment matters.
